The youngest elected member of the California Assembly when he took office in 2020 and now Chair of the California Legislative Progressive Caucus, Asm. Alex Lee has proven himself a strong progressive All-Star as he finished his second term. With a history of advocating for housing equity, he authored AB 2304 to ensure that rental applicants are not penalized for past civil eviction cases, and AB 2584 to ensure that business entities with an interest in more than 1,000 single-family properties cannot acquire any additional residential homes. He also co-authored AB 1955 to prohibit educational entities from establishing policies that out LGBTQ+ students, which aligns closely to his membership on the California Legislative LGBTQ Caucus. Asm. Lee ran as a Democratic Socialist, and has worked to push the Assembly toward more socially conscious policy, including co-authoring AB 2263 to require the Department of Social Services to explore the benefits and feasibility of establishing a guaranteed income program across the state. In his legislative efforts, political leadership, and community engagement, Asm. Lee continues to use his experience and influence to urge Californians toward more inclusive communities and systems.
