Over the past five years, 260,000 individuals have been deported, often for minor drug offenses. These individuals, both undocumented and residents with green cards, are often deported without regard to their strong family ties in the U.S., their time of residence in the country, or the relative triviality of their crimes. AB1352 prevents immigrants from being deported for minor drug offenses if they successfully complete drug treatment programs offered as an alternative to a criminal court proceeding.
