SB 347

(Jackson) Public Safety: 4-2-1
(Jackson) Floor: 24-15-1

Existing law generally prohibits a person who has been convicted of certain specified misdemeanors from possessing a firearm within 10 years of the conviction. SB 347 would add to the list the following offenses to those resulting in a ban on firearm possession: theft of a firearm, knowingly receiving a stolen firearm, and bringing ammunition onto school grounds. SB347 would have helped protect public safety because individuals who commit gun-related crimes are more likely than law-abiding citizens to commit future offenses, but was vetoed by the Governor.
