SB 406

(Jackson) Floor: 23-16-1

California has the second highest percentage of multigenerational households in the country. In a recent study of Alzheimer’s patient caregivers, over 40% of caregivers were not covered under the narrow definition of ‘family’ in the California Family Rights Act (CRFA). SB406 would have expanded the California Family Rights Act, which currently only allows workers to take up to 12 weeks off to care for sick children, parents or spouses, to include sick siblings, grandparents, grandchildren, domestic partners and parents-in-law. It was vetoed by the Governor.
