SB1085

Author: Skinner

Under current law, employees that are members of school and community college unions are allowed to perform union duties without loss of pay or other benefits. SB 1085 would require that public sector workers who are union officers or stewards be entitled to take a leave of absence in order to fulfill their obligations as long as the union reimburses the employer for the workers’ compensation, extending the current law to other public employees to allow them sufficient time off to participate in union business — which ensures that unions in California remain strong advocates for workers.
