Telecommunication companies want to streamline permitting and reduce costs for putting their transmitters wherever they want, increasing public health risks for communities throughout the state due to the dangers of radiation and electromagnetic frequencies in these transmitters. With SB 649, local governments would be stripped of their power to deny permits to telecommunication companies in certain circumstances. (This bill was vetoed by Governor Brown.)
