Asm. Dawn Addis moves from an Honorable Mention to an All-Star as she completes her first term in the State Assembly. A former classroom teacher who was inspired to run for office after witnessing the impact of then-President Donald Trump’s dangerous rhetoric on her students, Asm. Addis has focused her legislative work on public education, environmental protections, and housing. As a complement to her former role as Chair of the Select Committee on Offshore Wind Energy in California and Vice Chair of the Joint Committee on Fisheries and Aquaculture, she authored two environmental protection bills – AB 3233 to allow local entities the authority to prohibit oil and gas drilling in their jurisdictions, and AB 1864 to strengthen reporting requirements for the use of pesticides within a quarter mile of a school site. Along with providing affirmative votes to 55 other bills evaluated for Courage Score, Asm. Addis was also a co-author of AB 2236 to close a loophole and ban the distribution of plastic bags at grocery stores. A seasoned advocate of equity and climate justice, Asm. Addis has used this legislative session to establish herself as a committed advocate for progressive change.
