Sen. Lena Gonzalez earned perfect marks for another year of progressive legislative work, continuing her efforts to affect community-level change. Building on her assignments to the Standing Committee on Environmental Quality and the Subcommittee on Clean Energy Future, she has authored two significant bills this term: the recently signed SB1137, which creates a mandatory buffer zone between oil and gas wells and homes, schools, nursing homes, and hospitals, and SB1173, which would require the public pension systems to divest of fossil fuels within the decade. Sen. Gonzalez has also co-authored AB2050 to increase funding for mixed income housing development, an issue that she has championed since her time on the Long Beach City Council. Throughout her time in the state legislature, Sen. Gonzalez has been a consistent and reliable supporter of productive and reformist legislation that increases protections and resources for local communities.
