As she concludes her first full term in the State Assembly, Asm. Liz Ortega has established herself as a progressive champion and lands her first All-Star appearance. A longtime supporter of workforce development and worker rights, she currently serves as Chair of the Standing Committee on Labor & Employment, and is a member of the Standing Committee on Privacy and Consumer Protection. In 2024, she authored AB 2557, which improved reporting and transparency for local government contractors, and co-authored SB 1446 to protect grocery and drug store workers by establishing a requirement that companies share plans for the use of increased workplace technology and AI at least 60 days in advance of implementation. She also co-authored legislation to prohibit the use of legacy or donor standards in higher education admission decisions. This legislative record, combined with her designation as an Honorable Mention last year and her years of experience as a labor organizer and activist, show Asm. Ortega’s ongoing commitment to countering inequity across social structures, and leveling the playing field for all Californians.
