Consistently trending above 96% on every Courage Score since she joined the senate in 2018, Senator Durazo continues to use her organizing background to create progressive change for Californians. Prior to joining the state legislature, she was a labor union leader, and has been a strong advocate for workers rights and protections as an elected official. This year, Senator Durazo authored SB525, which established tiered minimum wage schedules for healthcare workers, to bolster an industry that has been severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. With attention to the statewide housing crisis and the economic challenges facing many families, she also authored SB567 to eliminate the loopholes that allowed landlords to to use no-fault just cause as a guiding standard for unwarranted evictions. With a strong aptitude for activism and addressing the needs of working people, she serves on five legislative committees, including Labor, Public Employment, and Retirement, and Energy, Utilities, and Communications. Senator Durazo is a deft architect of dynamic legislation, and has also been consistent this term in providing support for the progressive bills introduced by her colleagues.
