People's Report Card of California

2024 represented Sen. Mike McGuire’s first year as Senate President Pro Tempore, where he brought a dynamic and collaborative approach to California’s Senate leadership team. Representing a district spanning the entire North Coast, Pro Tem McGuire was laser focused on the housing crisis impacting his constituents, expanding protections for renters and tenants with AB 2347 and AB 2801. Recognizing the intersectional nature of many of the challenges facing the Golden State, Pro Tem McGuire helped to pass AB 1840 through the legislature to expand the availability of affordable housing loans to Californians regardless of their immigration status. With more Californians renting now than at any time in our history, Pro Tem McGuire’s principled defense of renter’s rights means his 100 percent score is well-earned.
