Sen. Nancy Skinner used her 14-year career in the State Legislature, including three terms in the State Assembly and two in the State Senate, to advance social justice and equity legislation across a broad constituency. A frequent All-Star, she chaired the Joint Legislative Budget Committee and the California Legislative Women’s Caucus, and supported bills to advance education, criminal justice reform, climate protections, and housing. In 2024, she authored or co-authored six bills, including SB 898 to increase protections for individuals who have been the victim of sexual abuse while in custody, AB 544 to provide grants to expand access to voting in county jails, SB 1022 to extend the statute of limitations on class action lawsuits with the California Civil Rights Department to seven years, and SB 674 to require refineries to issue a community notice when emissions exceed safe levels. Throughout her terms, she has provided leadership in coalition building, and was an effective advocate for Californians impacted by social and economic disparities.
