Assm. Tina McKinnor established herself as a progressive champion after joining the Assembly through a special election in June 2022 just before the beginning of the legislature’s summer recess, providing affirmative votes on key legislation. She voted in favor of SB57 to establish overdose prevention programs, SB731 to seal arrest records after a sentence has been served, and SB1137 to mandate a buffer zone between oil and gas wells and residences, schools, and hospitals. Prior to joining the Assembly, she was the civic-engagement director with LA Voice Action where she was a strong advocate of reforms in criminal justice, housing, immigration, and elections, and led campaigns to elect progressive LA leaders. She also served as the Operational Director for the California Democratic Party and Chief of Staff to several Assemblymembers. Now serving as Chair of the Select Committee on Restorative Justice and the Standing Committee on Public Employment and Retirement, Assm. McKinnor is poised to continue to champion progressive goals in her first full term.
