Following a strong tenure as the first openly LGBTQ+ leader of the California State Senate, former President Pro Tempore Toni Atkins bookended her record of service for California, supporting every one of our scored bills to earn 100 percent and another Honorable Mention. Sen. Atkins backed significant policies that prioritized public safety and health equity with SB 1031, SB 1057, and SB 1075. Sen. Atkins’ also helped push bold expansions of labor rights for the most vulnerable workers in the state with a raft of Senate bills expanding bargaining rights and workplace safety provisions. Her support for these legislative measures helped to address key issues faced by not only the voters who elected her, but the Golden State at large. As the only Californian in modern history to lead both chambers of the State Legislature, the legacy of Sen. Atkins charts a course for future legislators to follow.
