Assemblymember Carrillo was recently reelected to her second term as Vice-Chair of the California Legislative Progressive Caucus, a body focused on furthering civil rights, civil liberties, and economic justice for all Californians. She embodied those values as she authored two important pieces of legislation in 2021. AB 480, which gives county regulators access to inspect and close facilities involved in industrial accidents, adds another layer of environmental protection for residents and was signed into law by Governor Newsom in October. AB 937, commonly known as the VISION Act, provides deportation protection by preventing individuals deemed eligible for release from local jails and state prisons from being transferred to immigration detention centers. This legislation passed through the Assembly and has moved through three Senate committees. With these and other legislative successes, Asm. Carrillo has established herself as an advocate for meaningful and equitable change.
